I understand that Mr. Nielsen was rude by interrupting Paul Ryan’s speech, but was the rough treatment by police, his resulting arrest, and Ryan’s ‘joke’ really necessary? I’m glad that Mr. Nielsen questioned Ryan’s plans to do away with “entitlement programs” like Social Security and Medicare. He even said he’s been paying into those programs for over 50 years and Paul Ryan just wants to take those programs away from citizens, like him, who put in their hard earned money. Not all of us can afford to retire luxuriously (like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan can), that’s why a portion of each paycheck is taken out in order to pay for these programs. I think Mr. Nielsen has a right to question and be angry. That’s his money that Ryan wants to “steal” by doing away with these “entitlement programs.” It wasn’t the best timing to question Ryan, but why does an interruption warrant rough treatment and an arrest? Police could have quietly escorted him out of the building, end of story. Mr. Nielsen is a member of “We the People;” the people of the United States that allow Paul Ryan the privilege of representing them. Therefore, how can he treat his constituents in such a demeaning way? He serves and represents people like Mr. Nielsen, but all he can offer in response to his question is a belittling joke. What is wrong with America and its politicians?
